Theodor

„Theodor“ is a game we developed it specifically for the museum in Neuruppin. It is about the famous German novelist and poet Theodor Fontane. In the game, he lost his memory and needs help from the players to gain it back.

The game provides kids and teens with a playful environment to get a new perspective on Fontane’s life and works.

The game was developed with kids groups who acted as „critical friends“ and who received an introduction workshop to game development. The game’s concept is based on results from game camps that were held with kids and teens during the fontane.200 program in 2019.

Title Screen of the game. It shows an office in the style of the 1800s, decorated with items that symbol Theodor Fontane's life. On an old wooden desk, there is a person leaning, wearing a black and yellow bathrobe.
Screenshot of a puzzle. It shows a drawing of Lake Erie, a ship and city names around the lake: Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit, Buffalo, Erie. The User Interface indicates that it is the player's objective to rotate the elements into the correct direction.
Can you figure out where the cities are to be located around the lake?
Screenshot of a puzzle. It shows a wooden board with tiles. The tiles show symbols that are connected to Theodor Fontane's life. The player has to move the tiles around until they are at the correct position.
Slide the tiles to their correct position in order to bring Theodors memory back!
Screenshot of a puzzle. It is a classical jigsaw puzzle, showing Theodor Fontane's face. The puzzle is almost complete, only missing one piece that is still to be put in.
Theodor Fontane’s portrait as a jigsaw puzzle.
A screenshot of what is seen when a puzzle is solved. Pears fall from the sky, and the screen says: Erinnerung freigeschaltet (Memory unlocked).
The game can only be played locally in Neuruppin, so its definetly worth a visit!
